Here is a project that I worked on for a Youth Group in town called Momentum. I’ve worked with the youth leader (Michael Mattis) on several other projects and  always enjoy working with him.  He tends to give me a direction on what he’s thinking and then gives me complete creative control of the project. For this project I thought it would be nice just to have a custom typeface based on the inspiration I was given.

I wanted the type to have a lot of movement and energy to it and thought that a “brush and ink” technique would be a good way to show that feeling. I wrote the word over and over in my sketch book, narrowed the options down, and finally chose the one featured above. I liked the way the type looked so much that I barely changed it at all from the original.
